This lesson introduces and teaches CCS RI 6.8
Trace and evaluate an argument and specific claims in a text, distinguishing claims that are supported by reasons and evidence from claims that are not.
This lesson begins by teaching students the concept of an argument and its supporting claims. It then teaches students how to locate supporting reasons and evidence to support the claims. Students will be given passages in which they will identify the argument, claims, and supporting reasons or evidence. They will then evaluate in writing whether the argument was sound or not.
This lesson includes a PowerPoint Picture Presentation that introduces and teaches the concept. It includes worksheet handouts that allow students to engage and write in the skill portion of the lesson.
