I created this activity to satisfy the CCSS RI.2.9. My second graders have a hard time managing large texts that we have to teach this standard. I have also found that students have difficulty locating similar points. Paraphrasing can be very difficult.
This activity consists of two sheets. The first contains two passages about zebras. Students are asked to read and underline similar points in both texts.
The second sheet asks students to record three similar points from both texts and three differences in both texts.
This can be used to introduce, practice, or assess the skill.
I have used it in my own classroom, and it gave me a lot of opportunities to talk about similar points. An added bonus is that I can count this toward my science standards too!
