This set is complete with a range of ten informational texts and interactive flip flaps for notebooks. I have also included possible responses for every part of this set to help guide your instruction. In this set, you will also find color posters to hang in your classroom on the 5 text structure types, an introduction to the standard complete with student notes, and an in depth assessment based on the standard. These activities can be used for classwork, notes, centers, homework, and assessments. In my class, we first read the article thoroughly (you might opt to do this individually, in pairs, small groups, or whole class.). Next, we decide what text structure is being used. After that we discuss the key words that helped us to figure out the text structure. Next, I model and discuss with students why the author chose this particular text structure to organize the topic they wrote about. We also discuss how the structure of the text supports comprehension. Of course this is just an idea, feel free to go in any order that works best for your students. ☺ I have found that the more exposure and practice the students get, the easier this skill becomes.
Describe the overall structure (e.g., chronology, comparison, cause/effect, problem/solution) of events, ideas, concepts, or information in a text or part of a text.
