This set is complete with a range of ten pairs of firsthand and secondhand accounts and interactive flip flaps for notebooks and full-sheet text and full-sheet questions for those of you limited on time with interactive notes. I have also included possible responses for every part of this set to help guide your instruction. In this set, you will also find posters to hang in your classroom as well. These activities can be used for classwork, notes, centers, homework, and assessments. In my class, I have students read both high interest accounts thoroughly. You might opt to do this individually, in pairs, small groups, or whole class. We discuss the reasons we feel the accounts are either firsthand or secondhand and then highlight important any important information that helped us. Next, we write down the answers under each flap. I have found that the more exposure and practice the students get the easier this skill becomes. I also model strategies in finding clues about accounts prior to having students doing this independently.
