This set is complete with a range of ten high interest text topics and interactive flip flaps for notebooks and full-sheet text and full-sheet questions for those of you limited on time with interactive notes. I have also included possible responses for every part of this set to help guide your instruction. In this set, you will also find a poster to hang in your classroom. These activities can be used for classwork, notes, centers, homework, and assessments. In my class, I have students read the first passage thoroughly. You might opt to do this individually, in pairs, small groups, or whole class. We discuss the main ideas of the text and then highlight important information. Next, we write down the key information under the flap. We repeat this with the second passage. On the third flap we think to ourselves how best to combine or integrate the two texts to show knowledge of the subject. Students should find important information in both texts (using what they have already written), write this information in their own words under the third flap, and then orally share. I have found that the more students practice this skill the easier it becomes. I also model strategies to integrate the texts prior to having students doing this independently.
