PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Use popular Rihanna Song, Diamonds, to teach and practice figurative language, literary analysis and comparative writing. Students identify figurative language in Rihanna lyrics.

Students can read an exemplar literary analysis paragraph before writing their own. Then they can connect the song to a poem or other text with a similar theme, purpose or tone.

The exercises focus on the following terms or concepts:
alliteration, rhyme, metaphor, simile, metonymy, understatement, allusion, personification, hyperbole, idiom, theme, speaker's message, and making connections in literature. *Aligned to the Common Core Standards for Reading Literature for grades 6-12.*
