This lesson introduces and teaches CC RL 5.3 Compare and contrast two or more settings... drawing on specific details in the text.
This lesson introduces students to the skill of comparing and contrasting settings based on:
1. When the setting occurred.
2. The smell of the setting.
3. What happened at the setting.
4. What is being heard at the setting.
5. Where the setting is located.
Once students can identify these elements, they are then taught to identify the mood of the setting. They then use these attributes to compare and contrast different settings within the same story.
This PowerPoint includes two worksheets that correspond to the PowerPoint, with graphs for them to fill in with the attributes of each setting. The worksheets also contain space for them to write a paragraph comparing and contrasting the settings using evidence from the text.
