This lesson introduces and teaches CCS RL 5.5 Explain how a series of chapters fit together to provide the overall structure of a story.
This lesson reviews what the parts of a story are. It then demonstrates to students "why" chapters often start and end (introduction of new information, time, characters, setting, suspense, ect.) Students will be given stories, and with a graphic organizer identify the purpose of each chapter. They will then in written format explain how the chapters fit together to provide the structure of the story.
This product includes a PowerPoint presentation and worksheets that allow students to engage and write during the lesson. Most slides contain sentence frames for pair sharing, academic discourse, and to assist ELLs during the lesson.
