Choose a text to read aloud or a text for students to read. After reading the story, students have the choice as to how they want to respond. We go over the choices and I show examples. I also choose one response to model each day. We go over the rubric together and each student returns to their seat to independently work. I circulate around helping students as needed. Once students are finished I score their paper off the rubric and students glue in their reading notebook. I have the foldables already cut, and the pies cut out as well. I have seen harder work from students when they have a choice in their response.
