This bundle was created to address the CCSS RL.2.1.
I created these activities as a supplement for practicing and assessing this skill.
The question words: where, when, who, what, how, and why are on different colored posters. They are introduced and linked to each of the story elements- setting, characters, problem, and solution. The color coding of the question words is carried onto the practice sheets when students are asked to underline the proof of their answer in the corresponding color. There are two sheets for each story which can be chosen for their responses. One sheet asks students to answer a question and underline the proof in the story. The alternative sheet asks students to create their own questions, provide an answer, and underline proof in the story.
There are also 4 assessments that are included. One assessment asks students to create questions about a story of the teacher's choosing. The other three assessments include a story.
I also included a practice sheet about plot and the CCSS RL.2.3 (describe how characters respond to events or challenges). RL.2.3 is included in the last assessment as well.
Many of our reading activities are done with the whole class, on sticky notes, or in a response log. These sheets are great for application of the skill. They can be placed in portfolios, and they can be sent home.
The stories are from my imagination and are not leveled. I tried to use kid-friendly language, but they may require some scaffolding, especially if you're using them at the beginning of the year.
