Anytime is a good time to use a manipulative puzzle to reinforce mandated science objectives. Better yet, students work in teams, AND I've found my students, whom some say might be called challenging (I disagree), actually enjoy making and learning from this puzzle activity.
The RNA CUBE AND STACK PUZZLE teaches about 3 types of RNA. In teams of three each student has a copy of a cube template. They cut out the template, and paste their unique "cube" together. Once done, the student works with other mates to build their "stack". Upon accurate stacking (one side will describe mRNA, another tRNA, the third side will describe rRNA), the team completes the worksheet. Teacher and student correct their work. The ticket out the door? Name three types of RNA.

You will need scissors, glue, and copies of the template prior to class. This activity can be completed in 1 class session, or 2 if you want to include a mini-lecture, or Q and A session.
This activity has many uses. Key among them is on-task behavior, minds on thinking, and a fun way to learn about RNA.
FYI: You will find you have super cube builders. Let them help others. I assign roles once cubes are finished. Roles: Stacker, Recorder for the Worksheet, Checker (use book, internet, etc. to be sure all is correct). If you want a template for holding the cubes, let me know.
