This unit will introduce the following topics to students and have them read informational texts about the following ideas with provided worksheets:
*rocks v. fossils
*how are fossils formed
*two types of fossils
And then explore (again, by reading informational texts) 5 famous rock formations with the following options for activities:
*close reading passage
*famous rock facts
*graphic organizer to fill out
Lastly, there is work around excavating fossils! I found them in the dollar section at target and my students loved this, if you can find them!!
*job application for palentologist
*as you excavate form
*museum placard for the excavated fossil
ENJOY! This is perfect for students obsessed with nature/ rocks, or just for a science unit, and is great for older students who read at lower levels.
Note-All informational texts are links to articles - you can print or have students explore them on their own devices. Check links before sharing with students! The famous rocks also have links to videos!
