Description

Knowledge of root words, the meaning-carrying parts of multisyllabic words, can greatly increase student reading comprehension and vocabulary decoding. There are three forms of roots: prefixes, bases, and suffixes. A great way to practice students’ root knowledge after instruction is to give small groups an opportunity to play ROOTLE. This inexpensive game, made of bottle caps and upcycled containers will entertain your students and offer you an informal assessment of students’ ability to apply their root knowledge and vocabulary skills.
