This article is intended to be completed with teacher modeling and scaffolding in order to prepare Tier 3 students for state testing. The lesson plan includes right there questions I use during reading to monitor comprehension. The questions after reading are higher level and require students to think about their reading and apply what they read. Students must always justify their thinking with text evidence.
It usually takes me up to 4, thirty minute sessions with my Tier 3 students to complete the passage and questions. Days 1 and 2 are spent decoding multisyllabic words, reading text, and determining main idea. Days 3 and 4 are spent answering comprehension questions and justifying with text evidence. On day 5, a administer a cold read as a formative assessment.
