My Algebra students used to struggle with solving word problems. I found that using the acronym RULES really helped them keep things straight. The steps are:
R- read the problem
U - underline the question
L - line up a plan
E - evaluate
S - sense?
Since this method worked so well with equations word problems. I adapted it and created a very similar powerpoint using the same method to teach inequality word problems. In addition to the method are some key ideas and phrases associated with inequality word problems.
This powerpoint goes through RULES and an example problem.
There is guided notes sheet available in my TpT store that follows the powerpoint and has more examples to do as guided practice.
