My Algebra students struggle with solving word problems. I found that using the acronym RULES really helped them keep things straight. Now that we have established the procedure, this same framework helped us learn inequalities, linear equations, and systems of equations. The steps are:
R- read the problem
U - underline the question
L - line up a plan
E - evaluate
S - sense?
