How I Use this Resource:

  1. Introducing Syllable Division Patterns - I use this resource to introduce the concept of syllable division patterns with rabbit words (vc.cv) and ostrich words (vcccv).
  2. Word Sort Pocket Chart Literacy Center - I use this resource as a pocket chart center where students sort words by syllable division pattern or number of syllables using the sorting headers included in this resource.
  3. Memory Game - For a fun small group game, I set up an array with 10 pairs of pictures and words face-down on the table. Students take turns turning over two cards as they try to make picture-word matches.
  4. Write the Room - I tape the picture cards around the room with the word underneath. Students must try to spell the word correctly using a clipboard. Students can then peek underneath the picture card to self-assess their spelling.
  5. Syllable Division Word Wall - After we have learned all about syllable division patterns, I add these word cards to our word wall using the sorting headers.
