K.CC.5 Count to answer 'how many' questions about as many as 20 things arranged in a line, a rectangular array, or a circle, or as many as 10 things in a scattered configuration; given a number from 1-20 count out that many objects.
There are two tiers included in this activity. The first tier is coded with a blue border. This focuses on numbers 1-10. With Tier 1a recording sheet, students simply count the number of objects on each card. With Tier 1b recording sheet, the students count the number of objects on each card and record it in the square. Then write the number that comes immediately before and after the number in the spaces on either side. For Tier 2, students complete the same activities but for numbers 11-20.
Teacher instructions: Print, laminate and cut the counting pieces. Place them around your room for your students to discover. You may either print and laminate the recording sheets for reuse with a dry erase marker or print off as many copies as you need for students to use with a pencil. Students will travel around your room to discover how many of each race item is on each card with a corresponding colored border.
If you prefer not to place these around your room, you can always place the counting pieces in a bucket or container for students to draw out and answer. If you enjoy this activity please check out the other items available in my store or on my blog at http://www.differentiatedkindergarten.com
