Race to Zero is an independent math center designed to give students practice with double digit subtraction (and a little with addition of numbers less than 10). Students roll two dice, add the numbers on the dice together, and subtract that number from the number on their racetrack sheet. The difference becomes the minuend (the number on top) in the next space on their racetrack. They roll the dice again to get a new subtrahend (the number on the bottom), and they subtract again. They continue until they reach the end of the racetrack. The goal is to try and get as close to zero as possible. The center contains a teacher direction sheet, a student direction sheet, and a racetrack worksheet.
