Race to a Flat has children using base-ten blocks to cover a flat providing opportunities to add and trade.
This is an adaptation of a Marilyn Burns activity for which I created a recording sheet. The recording sheet has an example showing how to complete it. This activity gives students some practice with "trading" (regrouping) before you begin formal instruction on regrouping.
