These task cards (40 pre-programmed cards plus 12 blank cards) are meant to be used as a literacy center and can accompany ANY fictional novel read by students, either independently or instructionally.
Simply print the cards, place them in an envelope or case (I like to use the 4 x 6 in. photograph albums found at dollar stores), and set them on a table or shelf along with some response sheets and directions… VOILA! Instant literacy center!
There are three distinct types of cards (color coded) in the pack. Students are instructed to select some of each color thus guaranteeing a variety of skills practiced. While the directions that I provide suggest a particular number of cards, you, as the teacher, are able to determine the number of cards that are appropriate for your students. I have provided a blank direction sign so that you can write your own specifications as desired.
I have also provided a sheet of blank cards in each color so you may add new, original activities if you choose.
I’ve provided a set of response sheets for your convenience; however, I do not use these with my students. I simply ask mine to complete their work on loose leaf paper or unlined paper, depending on the activity.
I do not “grade” these activities in the traditional sense; however, I do assess them for neatness, completeness, effort, following directions. I’ve included a Likert Scale assessment sheet as a possible tool for your use.
These task cards are useful and engaging; your students will get many hours of fun learning with them!
