What educators are saying

My algebra 2 students always need extra practice when we do radical equations, so this was a fantastic resource to do that! They enjoy anything that has a puzzle aspect to it! Thanks!
Thank you! Students were engaged and I like the idea of the activity that allows students to check their work independently.

Description

Students will practice solving radical equations, including those with higher indexes (square, cube, and fourth roots) with this Pyramid Sum Puzzle activity. Several equations are written with rational exponents rather than in radical form. Students must be able to solve both linear and quadratic equations. Extraneous solutions also included. This activity was created for an Algebra 2 level class.

Simply give each student the template and set of problems. They solve each equation, cut out the boxes, then paste them onto the template so that each solution is the sum of the two solutions directly above it. See the preview for more detailed directions and photos.

This activity works very well in conjunction with my Algebra 2 Radical Functions Unit.
