And They All Fall Down: The Rise and Fall of the Modern Day Tragic Hero supports the following Common Core conceptual themes: journeys, rebellion, identity, crossroads, and perception vs reality.

This research-based task and informational writing assignment requires students to locate relevant facts and write an informational essay on their modern day tragic hero person of choice.

Students will begin forming their own concept of what defines a modern day tragic hero by comparing/contrasting two popular songs relating to heroes.

Students will then choose an example of a real life person who they feel exemplifies a modern day tragic hero in today’s world.

This resource bundle includes access to a Modern Day Tragic Hero Symbaloo Webmix. This ready to use research resource is bookmarked with 52 digital sites – all featuring people from real life who have achieved great success and are gifted with extraordinary talents. Each person has either made a tragic mistake or embodies a weakness that ultimately led to his downfall. Students will use these resources and locate additional information from either print materials or online sites in order to research a modern day hero of their choice.

For their assessment, students will write an informational essay requiring them to synthesize their notes from multiple sources in order to support the claim that the subject of their essay is an example of a modern tragic hero.

This bundle of resources can be edited and adapted if necessary to fit your needs!
