Two activities designed to motivate students to simplify, multiply, divide, add and subtract radicals.
The first activity is a set of sequences, some arithmetic, some geometric, where students have to work out the next term by deducing the term-to-term rule. This requires them to simplify radicals and then remember the laws for calculating with them. As an extension they could try to create their own sequence for a partner to work on.
The second activity, Backwards & Forwards, is a paired activity based on the idea of students creating sequences for each other. Instructions are included.
