This activity encourages students to examine the rules for adding, subtracting, and multiplying both radicals and polynomials and then look at how they compare. This helps students discover that there are many similarities for the rules for polynomials and radicals, therefore aiding them in generalizing the rules for adding/subtracting and multiplying. This show them that they can remember one rule for the operations rather than a new rule for every operation and type of problem.
