This activity would be completed at the end of a radicals unit. It only includes simplifying radical expressions, no equations.
I included two versions--one that contains a hint for each problem and one that does not. I include hints for my middle-level class but not for my honors class.
I print the problems on a sheet of paper and tape them to the walls of my room. I put students in groups of 2-3 and assign a problem number for each group to start on. On my smartboard, I have a timer (I use Google's timer) set for 3 to 3 and a half minutes for each problem. When the timer goes off, I make students move to the next problem. After students have finished all 13 problems, I combine two groups and have them discuss their answers.
All students are allowed to have separate answers in case they absolutely do not agree with each other. I grade these for accuracy in their classwork category.
