What happens when you choose to tell the truth instead of something pleasing? Class President Benjamin takes a risk on his graduation day from the prestigious Chilean INSTITUTO NACIONAL and instead opts to present a more truthful and critical view of the school he attended. Benjamin's speech surprises everyone and turns him famous instantly. In this 20 minute RA episode, you meet Benjamin and learn what he didnt like about attending the most prestigious private all boys school in Chile.
This episode can be very challenging for non native speakers of Spanish and even somewhat for Heritage learners, as Benjamin talks fast and has a Chilean accent. Its a great story however, and definitely will prompt students to be thinking about when its important to take a stand on something they feel strongly about. I would plan to play the episode twice through for students to grab answers and also I would dedicate a few minutes in advance to navigate the questions to prep students for the information they will need to find. Lesson takes one class period and has a reflection question for after listening. Answers also included.
