Rain Rain Go Away! A Subtraction Game from Sally's Spot
This is a game to help children learn the subtraction facts 0 - 10. It is used in math stations or small group.
The children take turns drawing cards, reading the equation, and giving the answer. If they can't give the correct answer they put the card in the discard pile. If they give the correct answer they keep it. If a lightning card is drawn, they lose all their cards to the discard pile. If a rain card is drawn, the player gives a card to every player. If a rainbow card is drawn, the player will take a card from each player. The child with the most cards after all are drawn is the winner.
My children like to make a thunder noise and do their arm like a bolt of lightning at the child that draws the lightning card. If they get the rainbow card, my children make a zing sound and make a rainbow with their arms over their head. If a child draws a rain card, I mist the child with water from a spray bottle. They love, love this! They all want to get this card and lose their cards! Wonder why??? At the end of the game I mist everyone in the game. Of course all the children in the room want to get misted. This is their very favorite game for some reason!
