This is a close reading guide to the book Rain Reign by Ann M. Martin. It is a beautiful book in which Rose, a 12-year-old girl with Aspergers Syndrome must learn a great deal about self-advocacy and resourcefulness in order to help the dog she adores...even when "helping" her dog, Rain, becomes an emotional roller coaster for Rose. I love this story, and my students, both boys and girls loved this story and enjoyed all of the discussion that were started with the questions in this packet.
As close reading is such an important part of the Common Core, students need to be taught to be analytic as they read texts. This unit includes close reading quotes, chapter-by-chapter vocabulary, a chapter-by-chapter summary, and discussion questions (for each chapter), as well as character study questions. I have used this unit with gifted grade three as well as grade four, and grade five. It includes everything you need!
