This fun music unit teaches simple rhythms and music reading skills to students in the primary grades. It is based on a nursery rhyme set to a traditional song, which may be sung as a round after it is mastered. (To hear the song, click on "Preview.")
The lyrics may be posted to promote literacy and reading fluency. This song is arranged with a simple one-note accompaniment to be played by a student on a tone bar, bell, glockenspiel, or xylophone. Sheet music is included for the song.
A second sheet of music contains the "Rain Rhythms" used in the 16 Rain Rhythm cards. The Rain Rhythm cards include half, quarter, and eighth notes. Print these rhythm cards on card stock and cut in half. Two sample Rain Rhythm cards are shown with the other images.
This is adapted from a book I wrote for Arts Educated. Their Core Music for Kids program contains music programs for the elementary grades: K-1 singing and movement (Kodaly); gr 2 musical theater and Chime Time; gr 3 Merry-Music-Go-Round (a book of rounds with glockenspiel accompaniments from which this lesson comes); gr 4 recorder; gr 5 ukulele; and gr 6 percussion. Classroom teachers or parent volunteers can teach these programs in schools that do not have a music specialist.
See my related product, Rounds for the Classroom. It has 20 rounds to sing with easy accompaniment on glockenspiel. Link-Rounds for the Classroom
