Presidents' Day Rainbow Tens is a fun way to give children practice with the rainbow / friendly tens strategy. That is, numbers which add up to equal 10 (i.e. 0+10, 1+9, 2+8, 3+7, 4+6, & 5+5)
In this game, players take turns rolling a die. They must then place a chip on the number that is the "friendly 10" partner of the number they rolled. For example, if player 1 rolled a 4, they would cover a 6 because 4+6 equals 10. The first player to cover all their numbers is the winner. If time runs out, whoever has the most numbers covered wins.
Having two different versions of the game board allows for differing ability levels to compete at the same game. The game boards feature pictures of George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, & The White House. This game also comes with a chart to help children visualize the concept of rainbow 10s. Please see the preview image for a glimpse of this chart.
This game would make a great extension activity, center game, or a fun thing to do on President's Day. You could even send copies home for students to play with their families.
This set contains three versions of the game:
1) Game boards with the numbers 4 to 9 which can be played using a standard 6-sided die.
2) Game boards with the numbers 1 to 10 which can be played using a 10-sided die.
Additional materials needed to play:
- a die
- markers (such as pennies or beans)
