We are doing this simple science project in conjunction with a "colors of the rainbow" unit spanning St. Patrick's Day week. Children will put different colored food coloring into multiple vases of water (we're using six, and also experimenting with color blending, though you needn't do more than two or three) on Monday. Each day of the week, they will mark their observations on this worksheet, both verbally and pictorially. I'm hoping it will teach them not only a little about the scientific process of observation and recording data, but also about the way that plants absorb and distribute water, and-- as I mentioned before-- the way that primary colors blend to make secondary colors. Simple and inexpensive, but colorful and fun!
