How can students use colour effectively when making pasta? In this fun and engaging assignment, students are assigned a colour of pasta to create (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and black pasta). They choose an appropriate ingredient to make their colour, then conduct research to determine the best way to present their pasta (including type of noodle, filling, and sauce). After creating their dish, students write a guided response (in the form of a blog posting), incorporating photos of their work. Included is a recipe for making fresh pasta; a chart of 6 colours, with ingredients to make each colour, and how to incorporate into a pasta recipe; blank recipe template; grocery order sheet; guiding questions; and two examples of assessment rubrics. Please note that ingredients included are written in both metric and imperial. This is a great extension activity after students have made fresh pasta. This activity was designed for 6-80 minute classes (2 for planning, 2 for lab days, and 2 for writing).
