Description

Engage your students in science and observation exploration during these magical rainbow themed experiments which are great for springtime, a weather unit, or St. Patrick's Day! Students will watch carnations turn colors as well as create a fizzy baking soda and vinegar rainbow colored cups, all while learning about the basic colors of the rainbow.

This resource is also included in my St.Patrick's Day Fun Bundle.

* Please note that this resource includes recording sheets, journals, and instructions, but the activities do require quite a bit of prep and some materials!*

Includes supporting materials for:

Experiment 1: Colorful Carnations- Students place carnations in colored water and watch as the days pass as they make observations about how the flowers are changing! You'll need cups/ vases, carnations, food color.

-observation journal cover, prediction, observation, and lesson learned pages are included so you can print your own class science observations or students can have their own individual ones.

Experiment 2: Magic Fizzy Colors- You take cups with baking soda (you hide the food coloring under a layer) and then students use a pipette to squeeze vinegar on. The magic happens! Not only does it fizz like crazy, but the colors appear. Students can either make observations of all 6 rainbow colors, or they can make observations of the primary colors, and then problem solve to create cups that produce the secondary colors (maybe using what they know about the rainbow). You'll need food coloring, condiment cups (I use the disposable plastic ones) and baking soda and vinegar. You'll also need pipettes (at least one per group).

-Includes half page size recording booklet for either version of the experiment with a few different question pages you can also add in.

Rainbow Pages- Color and label, label, or color secondary colors and label the rainbow pictures (all three versions are included).
