Rainforest Math & Literacy Fun- The unit is 80 pages of various math & literacy activities to complete in your classroom. I have included directions for each activity.
Toucan Time: Student's will pick a card, find the number and record the time.
Monkey Money Madness: Student's will pick a card, count the coins, record their answers, and color the monkey to match.
Rainforest Measurement:Use rulers, unifix cubes or links to measure the images. Students will record their results onto the printable.
Snake Skip: Students can arrange in order and use to fill in the missing numbers on the recording sheet.
Part-Part- Parrot: Use the Parrot mat to figure out each addition problem. I would use colored beans for this activity
Hut Mix-Up:Students will search for the matching huts. Put the numbers in sequential number order and record the order in the box.
Rainforest Predict~Tally~Graph:Students can work alone or with a partner to make a prediction, spin the spinner to tally and graph their results.
Munching Monkeys:Count the dots and write the number. Make the monkey eat the biggest number using < or >.
Tallying Tigers: Students will pick a card count up the spots, record the number in the box, and then draw tally marks.
Frogs by Five:Students will pick a frog card and count speckles by five. Write number in box. Write if it is an odd or even number and color the frog to match.
Rainforest Words: How many words can you make with the word RAINFOREST?
Sneaky Snake: Students will pick a card sound out the pictures on each snake and write the word on the recording sheet. This center correlates with "sneaky" E.
Silly Snake: Students will pick a card sound out the word and decide if it is a real word or a nonsense word.
Frog Frenzy: Students will pick a card. Say the word for picture on the card. Then they will write the letters in the boxes to form the word.
Rainforest Mystery: Students will pick a card and listen for the beginning sound of each picture to figure out the mystery word. (Hint: Words are all sight words)
Monkey Endings:Students will pick a card, say the picture on the card, and write the ending sound and color to match.
Stomping' Snakes:Students will pick up card, say C-V-C word on card and "stamp" the vowel sound they hear.
Tapping Toucans: Print syllable cards onto cardstock and laminate for durability. Students will tap/clap out syllables and write word in appropriate toucan on recording sheet.
CAN- HAVE-ARE Charts: These charts can be used to explore some of the things found in the rainforest!!
Rainforest Bubble Map and Writing Page: This bubble map and journal page will help students write FACTS about the rainforest.
