This is an early reader that incorporates extra vocabulary words and phrases, such as: lush, snatches, spotted. It makes an effective reader as a "read-to, read-with, or read-by-self". It also has a poetic cadence which makes it appealing to kindergartners, first graders, and second graders who are below grade level expectations. The book structure is typical of an emergent reader.
2 Versions of the 16 page reader
This 16 page emergent reader comes in both color and black and white, which makes it perfect to color and take home.
You may want to make only one color book (laminated) for a center, and hand out the black and white copies to your students to color, and keep to take home and reread.
An easy-to-make, two-page full size interactive black and white flap book for the 4 rainforest layers is also included.
This can be stapled on the left, with cut flaps to reveal each layer, one at a time. This simple flap book has descriptive text for each layer.
Includes 2 "posters" of introductory pages about the rainforest habitat
12 vocabulary cards (pictures and text)
The vocabulary cards are great for concentration/memory game, sentence writing, spelling, introducing unit words, and many other language activities.
A page with recommended resources is also included.
I would love to hear how this worked out for your students.
