This unit has a set of picture cards for weight, length, and capacity (with each set containing 6 cards). These are to be matched to the metric unit with which each item would be measured. These units are on umbrella cards. There is a set with the words and a set with abbreviations on them. There are also cards for students to draw pictures on in order to show objects measured by the various units. There are blank sets as well in order to program your own. There are also four worksheets to check for individual student understanding with answer keys included.
This can be used for an interactive bulletin board, math center, or fun review/differentiation. With so many programmable possibilities it is easy to differentiate.
If you like this product, check out all the other weekly units already posted (Sept.-Apr.) and ones that will be posted in the near future (May). Thanks for shopping!
Understanding Metric Units of Measurement
Copy all programmed cards on card stock (or on paper and laminate). Have students match the picture cards to the unit they should be measured by.
Option: Do just one type of measurement (capacity, weight or length) for each lesson.
Put all cards out and have students discuss which measurement unit to use and why.
Another Option: After sorting these cards, have students create other cards by drawing them on the raindrop cards. These can be added to the sort.
