In this activity, students sort subtraction facts by their differences. All facts have answers from 1 to 4. My students need so much practice with subtraction facts. We are working hard for them to fluently know subtraction facts to 5. This is a fun, non-worksheet way to give them practice with this.
Students decorate an umbrella, hang streamers or yarn down from the bottom of the umbrella, and then sort subtraction problem raindrops by their answers.
When my class finished this project, we hung the umbrellas around the room from the ceiling. My students loved getting to see their hard work displayed in such a fun way.
