I wanted my students to have a reference in their Writer's Notebook. So I created this handout. I divide my student's Writing notebook into three sections; bellwork/journal promts, writing projects, and their writing notebook. On the section title page of their writing notebook I have each student glue this hand-out in to remind them of the different types of writing to include.
If you have not read Ralph Fletcher's book "A Writer's Notebook", I highly recommend it. It makes for a wonderful read aloud, or even professional development book for teachers. Ralph discusses he and many professional writers do to create and draft their own stories.... And surprisingly their published stories didn't originate from a daily journal prompt, or story starter ;)
