Do your students have trouble generating topics for writing?
This activity uses the book Ralph Tells a Story by Abby Hanlon for inspiration. This book tells about a boy who avoids writing because he doesn’t think he knows any stories to write about. Through the encouragement of his peers (and some rolling on the floor!) he is inspired to write a story about an inch worm he saw at the park. The book concludes by showing example books that Ralph has been able to write.
This page uses Ralph’s books for inspiration and allows your students to generate book titles of events from their lives. Your students will be engaged for days creating titles of their own books, which can be stored in their writer’s notebooks and referenced for the remainder of the year when searching for a topic to write about.
