Creating Labels
If you choose to create your own, you will need to do an Internet search by typing…How to make scratch off stickers. Basically what you will be doing here is applying a clear tape to the area you want to scratch off and then brush on your mixture of silver acrylic paint and dish soap. Note: This does take some time and patience as sometimes you need to apply up to four coats in order to hide what is underneath the label.

Another Option…Get Creative
If you would rather come up with your own creative way to hide the random act of kindness squares on the tickets, go for it. You could possibly use some sort of square sticker, cut-up contact paper, or use a small sticky note. Get creative and save money!

Teacher Tips
Included in this product are 30 different Random Act of Kindness Scratch-off Tickets. These 30 tickets include around 20-25 unique random acts of kindness (3 per ticket). Examples of random acts of kindness are: I will write a friendly letter to someone, I will teach someone something new, I will compliment at least 10 people, I will help pick up the classroom, I will donate my change to a good cause, I will make a homemade gift for someone, I will sit by someone new at lunch, I will create a greeting card for someone, I will hold the door for at least 5 others, and more!

Copy off the amount of tickets you need for the number of students in your class. Note: Printing off in color and on a cardstock type paper works best. Cut out each ticket with a paper cutter. Apply your choice of scratch-off label (purchased sticker, paint, etc.).

Once the concept of kindness and compassion is introduced, inform your students that they will be given a ticket and will scratch off a square that will reveal a random act of kindness that they will try to complete.

It will be up to you as to the interval between each time students will scratch off their squares. You can choose to take a month (1 per week where the last week is a set aside for reflection and discussion). Or maybe you want your students to spread it out over a 3-month period. This is up to you.

After each act of kindness is completed, you may want your students to reflect on the act. A student reflection handout is provided for this. If students need more space, they can use the back of the reflection sheet.

Student Reflections
“I couldn’t believe how good I could feel by simply asking someone to sit by me at lunch. I never knew this person but am now friends with her.”

“I helped my neighbor rake some leaves. He gave me $10 for doing it. So I took the money and bought two books for my classroom. It made me feel good.”

“I loved scratching off the acts of kindness. It was exciting. It also made me feel great when I could help other classmates with their math.”
