In this one day lesson plan, students use creative writing and fairy tales to explore genres. After completing genre-related bellwork, students group together to read the original Grimm Brothers' "Rapunzel". Then, the groups must work together to parody the story in different genres - such as Western, Horror, Poetry, Romance, Mystery, etc. The genre-swapping stations are fun and engaging, and can easily be paired with a gallerywalk and incentivized. Suggested tie-ins are included at the end of the lesson outline, as well as the "Rapunzel" text and genre cut-out strips for the stations.
