This is a lab sheet for an experiment to discover what factors affect the rate of dissolving salt. Speed of stirring, surface area/particle size of salt, and water temperature are the 3 factors tested. The lab sheet includes selecting a hypothesis for each factor, and tables to collect their data for 3 trials. There is a question for analyzing results after each test and one final question about what is the best combination of factors.
This activity correlates to Florida Benchmark: SC.5.P.8.2
I can investigate and identify materials that will dissolve in water and those that will not and identify the conditions that will speed up or slow down the dissolving process.
Materials needed are: cups, table salt, rock salt, hot/warm water, cold water, spoons
