What educators are saying

Easy to use. I gave them a list of 10 songs, they had to pick 3 from my list and 1 of their own songs. It was a great relationship builder t learn about their favorite music.

Description

Description: Students will listen to music and mathematically discover how important the chorus is to the make-up of the song. Will math help us explain why they get stuck in our heads?

Common Core Standard: 7.RP.1 (and more)

Materials: 4 songs, a device to play them, and stopwatches to time

Student Learning Goals:

(1) Students will be able to set up complex ratios consisting of rational numbers.

(2) Students will be able to convert ratios into unit rates.

(3) Students will be able to compare unit rates and come to a conclusion about what the unit rate tells them.

Compute unit rates associated with ratios of fractions, including ratios of lengths, areas and other quantities measured in like or different units. For example, if a person walks 1/2 mile in each 1/4 hour, compute the unit rate as the complex fraction ½/¼ miles per hour, equivalently 2 miles per hour.
