This bundle includes activities to build ratio skills before an introductory ratio unit. They focus on building the multiplicative reasoning necessary for success in working with ratios.
Magic Factor Squares are ratio tables in disguise. Students analyze the multiplicative relationship between horizontal boxes, vertical boxes, or diagonals.
Pathfinders get students thinking about "playing with" factors and multiples to manipulate values. They are given a start number and a goal number, and have to choose two operations (multiplication and division only) to reach the goal.
Percents as fractions of 100 provides practice converting between fractions and percents, as well as building an understanding that finding the percent of a number isn't quite as simple as counting the number of shaded boxes. It begins to build number sense around percents, thinking about what 100%, 50%, and 0% of the whole look like.
All PowerPoints are provided in multiple formats to support older versions. Printable documents are in .pdf format. (Pathfinders are also included as editable .pub files.)
