Rational functions and inverse variation
This lesson opens up with an exploration on inverse variation; specifically showing that as one's speed increases the amount of time it takes to arrive at a specific destination decreases. This concept will help students get a better understanding of the shape of the graph of rational functions. Students will then get plenty of practice graphing rational functions. If students struggle they can detach the reference page which shows them step by step how to graph these types of functions. My students really like the fact that the they can place the reference page right next the problem they are working on without having to flip back and forth throughout the packet looking for an example. After completing this lesson, students will have a better understanding of this complicated topic. Oh and there is just a tiny bit of humor included to help keep students engaged.
