Studies show that connections to the real-world help students increase engagement and understanding of math topics. This real world performance task focuses on matching numbers to real world scenarios, classifying them using visual representations, and creating a number line and graphing three rational numbers.
This performance task is geared toward 7th grade math classes or higher-level 6th grade classes. 8th grade teachers will find it useful as a review before lessons on real numbers
Performance task components:
(1) Students will review a list of 10 images with short descriptions and match numbers with those images.
(2) Students will record the numbers in proper places of a diagram.
(3) Students will create a number line with their own range and intervals.
(4) Students will use a different type of organizer to categorize the rational numbers.
