This middle school lab task involves ratio tables to find equivalent ratios for a chocolate chip cookie recipe. Students can work together to decide how they can fill out the table to show the amounts of each ingredient for various batches. The focus questions involve critiquing the reasoning of others and explaining their methods.
This is a sample task from the new series Math Labs, coming Spring of 2016. This is from Ratios and Proportions for 5th, 6th and 7th grade. Primarily is perfect for 6.RP.1 but can be used to launch 7th grade ratios and proportions and can be used for multiplying fractions for 5th grade common core standards.
