This project allows students to work in pairs to create a lengthy and involved dystopian story outline that accurately deals with the ideas of dystopian writing while incorporating literary devices, character building, plot identification, etc. This project targets at-level students who need challenge without the overwhelming task of actually writing a dystopian story. They will, instead, create a detailed outline and build characters step by step as instructed. Advanced students will be able to extend the lesson organically. There is a visual requirement that requires students to create a cover for the novel they have "created" in their outline. A short presentation of the cover and novel details is required upon completion. No rubric has been provided to allow for adaptation to ability levels. Those wishing to use this packet will need to add a blank plot diagram to the end of the packet. The projects takes approximately 4-5 class periods to complete.
