This unit was designed with the Common Core in mind! It will take your students through a modified close reading procedure answering text dependent questions.
The first read will have students looking more at the surface for basic understanding. On their second read, students will dig deeper with four text dependent questions. For the third read, students will craft a short essay that analyzes Squeaky as a character and/or her growth during the story.
It also includes a mini-lesson on characterization that can be used with any story! This mini-lesson can be purchased separately and includes interactive notebook components.
This is a ZIP folder with two documents. One is the lesson and questions specific to "Raymond's Run", and the second is the characterization mini-lesson.
Please note - this does NOT include the text from the story; however, there is a link to the story included. While a key is included, text dependent questions allow for many possible answers. The key is intended to be used more as a guideline.
There is a rubric included for the short essay. No points have been assigned to allow for you to use it within your classroom system.
This meets Common Core Reading Literature standards 8.1, 8.2, 8.3 and 8.4. There are three opportunities for extension provided that could allow you to meet several writing and speaking/listening standards as well.
